Digitalization of Education in India. Is it worth?

A student wakes up, takes a bath, put on his uniform, leaves the house for school. No, no ignore the previous statement. A student wakes up, take a bath, put on his uniform, sit on his study table in front of a phone, a tablet or a laptop for “Online Class” in which his teacher will teach her through videos or spoken words on her own. This is the new normal. Children no longer need to go to school in buses and rickshaws, this pandemic has forced us to stay indoors and like everything, educational institutions and teaching have changed a lot.

Several schools started an online class to bridge the educational gap created due to schools being close due to Covid-19 pandemic induced lockdown. Digitalization of education or online class refers to the use of laptops, computers, mobile devices, an Internet connection, software applications like Zoom, Google meets, Microsoft teams and other types of digital technology to teach the students of all ages. Test-taking, entrance exams using a computer, online courses through open Universities and e-books, and e-content are some examples of digitalization in education nowadays.

School and classroom has been replaced by mobile phone and a laptop, but now a question arises: Is digitalization of education is good or bad? First it's the need of the hour. Other pros of Digitalization of education are:

• Digital education has made tough concepts easier and funner, like Tata class edge which has been installed in every school, in online classes, teachers teach students through YouTube videos which enables the student to grasp the concept easily and it's also fun at the same time.

• It's a time saver. We're living in a world where Time is money, digitalization of Education is a big time saver because there are many cities in India, which don't have a good transportation system so students have to travel for hours to reach their educational institutes. In this aspect, an online class or course acts as a savior to students from even the remotest parts of the country. One just need to click the link or log into a website or switch on their dish TV channel to learn a subject rather than spend long hours in the transport from one spot to another.

• Digitalization also help in establishing a partnership between parents and teachers with one goal in mind - better learning for students.

Besides these pros, there are some cons like online classes aren't accessible to all likes this blog isn't accessible by them, but luckily you've read this blog to know the worth of digitalization in education. So there are the majorities of students who don't have any access to the internet or proper infrastructure to attend online classes. But some educators and technology preacher believes that eventually, education will be an entirely digital activity strengthen by artificial intelligence and virtual reality. So better we should get used to it, this pandemic has changed a lot, let's make that change better, for us, and for.
