INDUSTRIAL PSYCHOLOGY : BACKBONE OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT



Imagine an organization where the employee's productivity is low. The reason for employee's low performance can be attributed to the inefficiency of managing. Or maybe management is finding it is difficult to blend in multiple personalities into a cohesive and unified team. Or employee is less motivated or his morale is low or maybe he's less qualified. The reasons are endless and the problem mentioned above is common in every organization.


So what's the solution?


The solution lies in the one of the fields of psychology that is, industrial-organizational psychology (also called I/O psychology) is characterized by the scientific study of human behavior in the organizations and at the workplace. I/O psychologists use psychological theories and principles to solve problems at the workplace and improve the quality of life. They improve workplace productivity and management and employee working styles. They also collaborate with the management of the organization to help them in policy planning, carry out screenings, and employee testing, and training sessions and developmental design.

We live in the 21st century, where technology is taking over everything. But we cannot deny the fact that humans are an essential part of every business organization. Behind every successful organization lies the human resources department, which is designed to maximize employee performance. Human resource management is the management of human resources. And Industrial Psychology is the science of human behavior relating to work.

Industrial Psychology and Human resource management altogether benefits an organization in many ways. The main function of HRM is a Recruitment of Personnel and psychology may help in recruiting right man for the right job. Through accurate job analysis, standardized application forms, scientific screening of applications and final overall rating are some areas where the Industrial psychologists can make an important contribution. They measure candidate's aptitude, intelligence, skills, and temperaments through psychological tests and interviews to achieve the objective of the selection. They also help in the placement of employees at different jobs. Industrial Psychologist analyzes the behavior of people at work to determine the situation or factors, in which an individual feels motivated and is willing to work genuinely to maximize the productivity. They dig into the cause of low morale of the employees and can determine the factors influencing the relationship between attitudes of employees and their performance.

Thus, we can say a modern era of Industrial psychology in A Human resource management is benefiting an organization by recruiting better employees, by increasing motivation and morale of an employee, improving their quality of life hence maximizing the productivity of an employee and helping the organization to reach its goals.
